Over the next several days we will be diving into the features and functionality of the Sitecore Rocks Manage tool. The Manage tool is a collection of interfaces designed around managing different aspects of a Sitecore web application. In today's post I will be covering the Sites interface which is a visual representation of the sites node in the web.config.
To open the Sitecore Rocks Manage tool, right click the Sitecore instance, in this case the Jetstream node, in the Sitecore Explorer and select the "Manage" menu item.
With the Sitecore Rocks Manage tool open you will notice the different tabs for each interface. The Sites interface is the first tab in the Manage collection. As Sitecore developers, we are all very familiar with the "sites" configuration element in the web.config and this is simply a visual interface for the sites collection. You will notice if you select one of the sites in the top section of the Sites interface that all the properties for that site are displayed in the bottom section. We can use this interface to validate all the different configuration options of an individual site. Also, if you select a single property, you will get some help text at the bottom of the screen describing the property. This is very helpful if you are familiar with a particular property.
Using the Sites interface we can also create a new site by right clicking to open the context menu and selecting the "Create New Site" item.
This will open the Create New Site dialog where we can specify a new site and all the configuration properties associated with a Sitecore website.
The Sites interface of the Sitecore Rocks Manage tool is very handy to inspect the different configuration properties. Using the Sites interface we can also create new sites.
